2026 Club Finals Weekend
The Men's Championship Singles was as good as any we've seen with Paul Kingston just edging out Michael Cusack.
In the photo above, Michael studies the distances watched by Paul and Jim Breen, who marked the match.
Congratulations to Paul on winning his first Men's Championship and also to Michael, who put up a tremendous fight and showed commendable sportsmanship on one particular end. The final score was 21-20 which says it all.
The Ladies' Pairs final was a most entertaining game between Áine Salley / Christine Byrne and Hazel Higgins / Joan Burns, who held on to win.
In the above photo, Áine indicates to Christine how far short her bowl was from the jack while Hazel walks towards the head.
Joan and Hazel got off to a great start and looked like runaway winners. Then Christine and Áine made a great comeback, and it went to the final end, but they couldn't quite catch them. Well done to all four finalists, but particularly to Joan and Hazel for winning the Trophy.
The Men's Senior Singles was between Michael Gavan and Noel Maguire. Played on a rather damp morning, Noel got a good lead, and then Michael fought back, but Noel just proved too strong.
Above, Noel carefully studies the head with Michael watching. Jim Galvin, the marker, is perfectly dressed for the rather miserable conditions!
Congratulations to Noel, who joined us last year, on his first Club trophy. Also well done to Michael for being a finalist.
The Ladies' Senior Singles saw Iris Murphy battle against Ruth Maybury. Iris started well but Ruth soon got into her stride, and proved to be the stronger bowler on the day
In the photo above, marker, Breda O'Reilly Hogan, carefully measures watched by Ruth with Iris in the background.
Well done to Ruth on winning the Trophy for 2026. Well done also to Iris for doing so well and reaching the final.
The Mixed Pairs final was a cracker between Hazel Alexander/James Lanigan and Bríd Brien/Noel Maguire.
Above, James has just done the scoreboard showing 14 shots all after the 16 ends! Behind, Hazel ‘hoovers’ the bowls helped by Bríd as they prepare for the extra end.
This was a fantastic match and it was tough to have losers in such a tight game, but Hazel and James won on the extra end. Hard luck to Bríd and Noel and well done to all four for giving us such an entertaining game.
The Men’s Handicap Singles final was another great game with Lee Waddell just beating Herman Huisamen by 21-19.
In the photo above, Lee calmly watches Herman deliver in the afternoon sunshine.
This Men’s Handicap final was played at the same time as the Men’s Championship final. They were both exceptional games and it was hard to know which one to watch at any one time! Lee and Herman had the same handicap so it was also a scratch game. Congratulations to Lee and well done to Herman too.
This year’s Men’s Pairs final was between Richard Needham/Phil O’Sullivan and Tom Grace/Eamonn Kennedy.
The photo above shows them after the game with Eamonn holding the Trophy after he and Tom were the winners. At the left of the picture are the gallant runners-up, Richard and Phil.
This match was played in rather damp conditions and featured some excellent bowling. Well done to Tom and Eamonn on an excellent win and commiserations to Richard and Phil who played their part too.
The Men’s Junior Singles final was between Ian Quinn (last year’s runner-up) and Albert Verhoeven.
The photo shows Mary Kehoe shaking Albert’s hand and complimenting him on a great effort
This was a very enjoyable match to watch and well done to both Albert and Ian for playing so well. Ian was able to make up for last year’s disappointment and win it - congratulations to him.
